What Causes Irregular And Painful Menstrual Cycle And Back Ache?

Question: I have always had irregular and painful menstrual cycles, but over the course of the last year the pain has been getting worse. My military Doctors have sent me for ultra sounds twice. (Once when I first went for this issue and once about 2 months ago... both came back normal) Because of the normal ultra sounds the only thing my Doctors have done is put me on several different birth controls, none of which control the pain or even out my cycles.

The pain always comes from my left side and most times gets so bad that even my lower back will hurt. Is this something I should go to the emergency room for or are the military doctors right about painful cycles being normal?

They are painful cycles only. I do not think they are an emergency.

Do you get the pain only during menses?
