What Causes Feeling Of Something Stuck In Throat?

default
Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Question: Hi, I had a feeling like a piece of popcorn stuck in my throat when I swallowed for a couple days and now I feel like something is stuck on the back of my tongue where my throat starts and it hurts a lot. When I put my finger where it hurts I can feel a bump, but it is too far back for me to see it at all.

Brief Answer:
This could be lingual tonsil

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to healthcare magic...
I had gone through your question... This could be due to lingual tonsils...That is similar to usual tonsil you must have heard of...we also have tonsil in posterior part of tongue exactly where you are describing that you can feel something...for temporary relief of pain you can take pain killer like tab ibuprofen .

If it’s troubling often then the treatment of choice is surgery...There are many methods like cryosurgery ...laser.
Nothing to worry...Wish you a speedy recovery and good health...if you have any questions it’s my pleasure to help you....

So it should go away on its own? How long should I wait before going to a doctor if it doesn't go away?

Brief Answer:
Yes it can come down on its own...

Detailed Answer:
Hi...thanks for the follow up question...
Take symptomatic treatment like painkillers...avoid aggravating factors like taking refrigerated foods..If it’s not coming down by 2 weeks or its symptoms increasing in intensity...then consult your doctor...in most of the cases I have seen it has come down in a week or two...nothing to worry.

Wish you a speedy recovery... Take care...
