What Causes Excessive Thirst During The Day?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 May 2015
Question: Hello! I am 63 year old female. I weigh 120. I exercise everyday. I have no medical problems. I take Wellbutrin and klonipin. For the past few months, I have been drinking so much water,I have to have water by my bed so I can drink it at night. In the afternoon! I become very tired and somewhat latatrgic. I become so tired that I end up in bed early.... During the day I am ok except for the thirst. One time I had to go to the emergency room and they put me on a potassium drip because my potassium was very low. Any thoughts? My family doctor closed his practice because he has cancer so I have no physician now. Can you give me any thoughts? Thanks so much!XXXX

Brief Answer:
Diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Such high increase in thirst could mean that you might be suffering from diabetes. The other common reasons for increase thirst are

1. Diabetes insipidus
2. Hyperparathyroidism
3 anxiety
4. Dehydration

Please find yourself another GP as soon as possible. Restrict yourself to not more than 2-3 litres per day.

I hope I was of help, please get back to me if you have any further queries
