What Causes Cold Chills, increased Micturition And Intermittent On And Off Fever?

Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: Hello, I suddenly began having urination problems today ( next to none). I typically urinate more than most so this is odd given the amount of water , tea and juice I drink.I was up at 1am and 3am and seemed okay, other than the colour . I have recently been fighting an intermittent fever / cold chills and have had nausea. I am fully capable of daily activity but this is odd for me. I've been drinking fluids all day and very little , if no, urination is occuring. The only low grade pain I have is located where my ovaries would be. Nowhere else.

Brief Answer:
UTI likely suspicion, Get it confirmed

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
What you are describing is a classic presentation of UTI. Rigors and chills, flank pains, increased micturition , intermittent on and off fever are all very much leading to UTI. I suggest visit nearby ER get a urine analysed and a simple prescription of quinolone antibiotics with some symptomatic treatment would suffice. old age, General disability , Hospitalization, Instrumentation and manipulation and interventional procedures in Genito Urinary tract, Renal infections, Stones in kidneys, and Diabetes Mellitus are some common reasons for UTI in this age limits of yours.
It is said that drinking plenty of water is the best way to get rid of the organisms and clearing the pathway of them. SO drink as much fluid as you can, At least 12 to 16 glasses of water a day.
Then comes the role of hygiene, Front to back unidirectional wiping , using hot saline baths, sits baths, Avoiding unnecessary douchings, Not using Beauty soaps or perfumes down there, Good toilet hygiene, Post coital voiding immediately, avoiding unnecessary manual or digital or lingual manipulation of the area to avoid troubles.
Recently Use of Cranberry juices 10-12 ounces daily work like charm. These juices have prostacyclins in them which doest allow organisms to stick to the pathway epithelium and thus decrease the predispositions to infections.
Those who have trouble with pain during micturition can get relief from bladder analgesic like Phenazopyridine if Sulfa allergies are not the problem.
Recent use of Intra bladder Instillations of Hyaluronic acids and chondroitin sulfates have proved very efficient.
Rest the antibiotics like quinolones, cephalosporins an. penicillin, sulfonamides and aminoglycosides with other symptomatic treatment is advised after being prescribed. Symptomatic treatment is used like antispasmodics like phloroglucinols or hyoscine etc and simple analgesics like acetaminophen etc suffice.
Get to ER and get a confirmation of this suspicion by simple Urine routine exam. Also reduce coffee and tea and all other stimulants as they increase the urination by diuresis.
I hope it helps.Take care and dont forget to close the discussion please.

S Khan
