Posted on Fri, 4 Dec 2015
Question: Any advice on stoppiing/reversing bone loss in my mouth? Vitamins/mouth wash/transplant.
My dentist says that is it hereditary (probably true) and my dental hygiene is good.
I am 63 and have started losing teeth, and of course implants cannot be recommended?Thank you for your time

Brief Answer:
Can be due to osteoporosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The bone loss in your mouth at your age can be due to osteoporosis. You can get a dexa scan done under the guidance of an orthopedician. In case the score is low then specific treatment for osteoporosis can help in decreasing the bone thinning. Bisphosphonates, calcitonin, parathormone, calcium and vitamin D3 supplements are helpful in preventing the further bone resorption.
You can start taking calcium and vitamin D3 supplements till then.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
