What Causes Blood In Stools Post Injury?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: I hit my kidney area on a stiff tree branch today while snowboarding and didn't think much of it. Since then and there has been a bit of blood in my previous two stools, not an obscene amount or anything though. And now a slight uneasy feeling in my stomach The only thing I could think of is bruised kidney, but I don't have any blood in my urine, only in my stool. Any advice?

Brief Answer:
Thorough clinical examination required by Physician

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir

Any significant history of presence of blood either in stools or urine following blunt abdominal injury requires thorough clinical assessment and examination by Clinician.
Blunt injury in the kidney area is unlikely to result in blood in stools , even then possibility of injury to either intestine or microscopic blood in urine can't be ruled out. I would suggest you the following

1. Consult your physician for thorough clinical examination

2. Ultrasound scan of abdomen In consultation with your Physician

3. Erect X ray abdomen

4. Urine routine and microscopic examination

5. Stool examination

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care

Well if I had health insurance or money for a doctor in the first place then I would've done that rather than ask a question here. This wasn't very helpful.

Brief Answer:
Acid suppressant like Pantoprozole will help

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir

There is no substitute for assessment by good clinical examination. As i mentioned the bleeding from rectum could be unrelated to blunt abdominal injury sustained, this can be confirmed by good clinical examination.

I would suggest you the following if the bleeding is still persistent

1. Acid suppressant like Pantoprozole to be taken

2. Laxative like Lactulose will be helpful

If the bleeding recurs then consultation with your Physician is definitely required.
