What Causes A Hard Vertical Protrusion Above The Navel?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: I have a high blood platelet count-possible indication of inflammation internally says the Dr.
I have swelling above left collar bone no prior injury there. Just fluid that she said she doesn't know yet what the cause is from.
Especially after eating, I have a hard, vertical protrusion from the top of my navel about 2 inches in length and width.
I had ultrasound yesterday and am awaiting the results. I had a chest X-ray which showed no enlarged heart or fluid leaking into the lungs.
I don't smoke or drink but I am guilty of taking ephedrine to control my appetite as I am 5'4" and weigh 170lbs. Yes I know that alone is bad.
Please indicate what would be vertical above the navel? Is the protrusion most likely because of a tumour? I have no other symptoms and the Doctor said if it's cancer it might be early since the blood tests were all good levels.

Provisional Diagnosis-Epigastric Ventral Hernia ? with Divarication of Rectii-(Diastasis Rectii)
Hi,Dear Good Evening and Thanks for the query to HCM.
I studied all the details put forth by you along with all the test reports updated with it.
At 43 yrs almost all tests are normal though your mother had a very high heart risk profile at 50 yrs.
your main concern of this query is-Whats the hard protrusion? and if it related to cancer ?as your father had a Lung Cancer history.
In reference to these important aspects of your query and its facts, I would await to opine on your query and would like to keep my fingers crossed till some more details of the Ventral protrusion till the USG report and report on the neck swelling comes before me for review.
Empirically When I consider your facts about the above navel-Epigastric Ventral
protrusion few important facts lead me to label it as Epigastric Ventral Hernia-as follows-
*That this Vertical-Protrusion comes ONLY after EATING and is hard to feel by you.
*I would like to have ER Surgeon's view on the clinical findings of this Vertical Protrusion.
*Your Lipid profiles are needed as they are not given by you.
Till the time I get above Information about your case-In my opinion and experience, the vertical protrusion after eating is mostly a "Epigastric Ventral hernia".
I have given my expert Provisional-opinion as asked by you.
Welcome for any further query to Me at my virtual clinic at HCM.
I would try my best to help you out in caring and curing out of this problem.
Awaiting your above information for further study and planning your treatment.
Till then Good Night
