Question: Have been having sinus pressure lately. I also have a sensitive vagal nerve. When having a BM this morning ( no straining) but large I got a throbbing pain in my head. It went away after a few mins. What would cause this

Brief Answer:
Usually the slight breath holding required for BM

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. If this does not happen again, there is no need for any investigation.

2. If this persists the cause is likely to be the holding of the breath/ mild exertion required for a bowel movement and since you have a sensitive vagal nerve. Other possibilities are a migraine variant associated with the above or with food intolerance, bowel inflammation and a sinus headache. Many other causes are very rare.

3. Sinusitis can be ruled out by a plain Sinus CT. Of you do have a sinusitis or a post nasal drip, Balloon Sinuplasty is an option.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
