What Are The Symptoms To Look For After Electric Shock In Children?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2015
Question: Hi Dr.
My 2 year old son tried to pull a cord out of an electric socket and must have touched part of the metal. He started crying and his thumb was warm and he said it was an owie but the cord was only half way out of the socket. He seemed fine otherwise. About 30 or 45 minutes later I noticed he had some spit up on his shirt, he was playing with his kitchen toys. Should I be concerned about the shock? I didn't know if the spit up could be related or if he put one of his play kitchen utensils in his mouth and gagged himself.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting your query.

Well most of the effects of the shock will occur within 10-15 minutes . It has been 45 minutes and your kid is fine ( except for the spit). So there is nothing that you need to be worried .

Spit is not related to the shock and it could be just a normal thing . So just relax.

Make sure there is no wound over his fingers.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

Regards.
