Question: I need answer from an expert doctor only please. 2 years ago, i had intercourse with sex worker. She gave me condom to wear which i wore. but that was a very quality Rs. 1 condom. i was drunk and after that incident i got very scared. i dont remember whether i had condom on my place or it went away during intercourse. i also dont remember whether it was intact or broken during that stupid activity. I had DNA PCR done after 18 days. then 1.5 months and 3 months i took elisa test. then after 5months again DNA PCR. again after 9 months, 11 months, 1.5 year and 1 year 8 months, i took sometimes elisa and sometime both elisa and DNA PCR together. all were negative. this was a one time incident and it never happened again. neither it will happen in future. Pl confirm what should i do? is it possible that antibodies dont develop after 2 years? is it possible for virus to remain dormant and dont get detected by DNA PCR test? i have cough from last 6 months which sometimes fades away automatically and again reoccurs. i also had fever after 1 month and 3 months from that incident. pl tell me what to do? what are the odds/ chances in my case?

Brief Answer:
You are HIV negative for sure !

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question.I am Dr Matin and will be answering your question.
You are a HIV negative person for sure as you have tested negative several times beyond the maximum window period of three months. There is no way antigen or antibodies will go unnoticed till 2 years. No such case has been reported till date .
Then HIV can not be diagnosed without the substantiation of a positive HIV positive test .You need to go for a work up to the diagnosis for prolonged cough and fever.
Your cough may be due to even allergies too.
So from my side no further required as far HIV is concerned rather the diagnosis of chronic cough of fever is to made so that you could be adequately treated.
Hope this is useful.
