What Are The Symptoms Of COPD?

default
Posted on Sat, 28 May 2016
Question: If a person has very mild asthma. Or if they have very mild copd, what would the symptoms you would expect to see

I have mentioned and somewhat bragged that over the years my PFTs have stayed in the same range. Of course the range is the percent of expected. Expected ranges ajdust downward by age. If the predicted number in Fvc or fev reduces and the actual matches that predicted. Is breathing a bit reduced than what it was when younger? Fortunately I have kept the same numerical number on my recent pft as I did 15 years ago so I'm not having an issue but was just wondering

Oh what did you say about running out of breath when speaking. Is that a side effect of anxiety and panic. I only recall it beginning since my anxiety sky rocketed

I just observed a tv commercial on an eye medicine. The actors walked down a circular stairway. I am so anxiety strung that I got breathless just watching it or felt the release of anxiety hormones that triggered the sensation

I have an issue with stairs in that I get out of breath climbing long stairs. I have to go up and down them daily and my anxiety kicks in as I go up or down. I can watch shows that have running, climbing and such and they can sometimes trigger a panic attack.

The commercial was a few people traveling down a long stairway and talking. Since my anxiety is triggering issues of sob when talking and sometimes walking the commercial was a perfect trigger

Stairs have been a problem in that I run out of breath before I reach the top or when I reach the top I do not have the air in lungs to speak right away. The sensation has created a fear in me that even if I see a commercial or a program of this event I will get the anxiety feeling of the event happening to me. Mind problems with some physical issue be it out of shape or what.

Let's talk of a strange sensation that I have had for 2 years now. Directly under my rib cage is a pressure sensation if I push in enough it gets uncomfortable dull ache. I feels as a pressure that when I breathe in and my belly expands to adjust to inhale it hits a stopping point before I'm finished inhaling.

I could give points from 7 different PFTs that say why it's not air trapping or hyper inflation so I will skip that. I want to know what is putting pressure on my lungs as I try to breath

Small airway wouldn't cause this would it.
I had an upper gi 3 years ago and a colonoscopy 5 years ago. No problems mentioned then.

Right now I am lying on the floor relaxing in a stress reducing position. If I press in on my abdomen I can breath much better than if I don't press in. Again this is not new but has been an issue for a couple of years. I find I belly breath better when lying flat than when I am standing. It's not gas either.

Ok Doctor. B. What is it.

Brief Answer:
Males are having abdominothoracic respiration.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Normally males are having abdominothoracic respiration. This means, abdominal movements are more while breathing as compare to thoracic movements.
This is exactly opposite in females. Females tend to move their thorax more as compare to abdomen while breathing.
So please let me know
1. What kind of respiration you have? Abdominothoracic or thoracoabdominal?
2. Do you have more belly fat?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

You should loose some weight.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
Too much fat in abdominal area can cause such symptom.
This is not seen with slightly higher abdominal fat.
If you have very excess tummy fat (protruding) then this can be the cause.
So please let me know
1. What is your waist?
2. Do you have too much fat in abdominal area?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can see.
In my opinion, you should try to loose some weight from abdomen area.
For this, you should try sit ups.
Avoid oily and fatty food.
Go for walking and jogging after meals.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
And most important thing, avoid stress and anxiety. Be relax and calm. Enjoy your life.
You will be alright.
