Posted on Tue, 14 May 2019
Question: Visited an orthopedic oncologist for a lesion on my left ilium that was accidently found in a ct scan. The orthopedic oncologist did some blood work and my Sedimentation Rate-Westergren was 63 mm/hr which is high. My Beta Globulin was 1.4 g/dl which is slightly high. What does these numbers mean? What disease do I have based on these numbers? FYI, the C-Reactive Protein was in normal range.

Brief Answer:
Blood tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking

Elevated beta-globulin levels may be indicative of chronic liver or kidney disease, or chronic inflammatory diseases such as aspergillosis or avian chlamydiosis

The high sediment olso indicates inflammatory disease. You may need further examination for better diagnosis and further treatment

But do these numbers indicate anything that should be concerning? What further testing do you recommend? What type of diseases could I have based on these numbers?

Brief Answer:
Blood tests

Detailed Answer:
In my opinion you should not be concerned. Based on these findings we cannot specify the problem. Further examination may not be necessary at the moment but you may repeat the tests after 4-8 week.

The doctor did this test because a of lesion found on my left ilium during a ct scan. This is what the ct scan says “No suspicious lytic or sclerotic osseous lesion. Stable lucent lesion in the left ilium unchanged compared to study of 10/7/2014.” Do you think there is any connection between what was found in the ct scan and the blood work?
