Question: To understand the Pregnacy First-trimester urine and blood check up reports- Question- Our doctor had asked for urine and blood check-up to my wife (HB-Electrophoresis) in which the doctor has explained Elevated A2 value (HbA2 5.2) suggestive of BETA THALASSEMIA TRAIT. Due to which Doctor has suggested an HB-Electrophoresis to me (husband).

I have read your query and seen the report as well. From the report it is clear that your wife has Thalassemia trait. It is about carrying the gene for abnormal hemoglobin. It is inherited in autosomal recessive manner. It means that if only one of the two genes is carrying the trait, then it will not produce any clinical features. This is why your wife probably is normal or near normal and didnot know about this before. They may have mild microcytic anemia.
It also means that if you donot carry this gene, then the chances of thalassemia in child are really low. If you have one gene then there would be one in four chances for baby to have thalassemia. So it is good to get yourself tested and get back with reports.

Dear madam, In reference to the ongoing conversation I would like to ask a question as I got tested for HB electrophoresis. And I have my report which interpret - Normal Adult Hemoglobin pattern. Can you please help me to understand both report output of my wife shared earlier and my current report.

Your report is normal, so there are practically no chances that the baby will have thalassemia disease.
There are low chances of thalassemia trait (just like your wife) that may live a normal life. So there is no logic in doing further testing on the baby until born.
Genes sometimes are not simple maths and surprises can happen. But given the current situation, you may relax.
