Question: Hi I'm a 31 year old Woman and started taking amphetamines 4 years ago when I got divorced. Someone I know gave me these pills. I don't know the name because they weren't bought in a drugstore. Its a capsule with little color XXXXXXX balls.
After 3 years they didn't work the same so I started with methamphetamine injections. Of course because I couldn't sleep I also used to take at night Valium, dormicum, tafil or rivotril. I really wanted to stop but its so difficult to quit overnight so 3 months ago I started taking REDOTEX ( Clorhidrato de d-norpseudoefedrina 50.00 mg Sulfato de atropina 0.36 mg Aloína 16.20 mg) because somebody told me to do this to start slowing down. I take 1 pill of redotex 1 day Yes and one day No.. I don't know how powerfull and concentrated redotex is but I feel okay when i take it, the problem is that the day I don't take it I feel kind of bad..
I also stopped to take Valium at night and trying with Nytol and soft sleeping medicines but they don't work that well and I don't sleep, well, just a little bit sometimes.
I'm a Business woman and its very difficult for me to leave my company and go to Rehab and I wanted to know if there is the possibility to quit by my self with the help and recommendation of you. Or what do you suggest? Is there a process that I can follow first before I give up and go to rehab?
Thank you very much in advance!!!

Hi

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
I appreciate your efforts for medical consultation in so much distress.

Important aspects of your query are:
•     31 year old business woman
•     Currently concern related to use of Redotex and Nytol.

Redotex contain following substance:
L-triiodothyronine (Thyroid hormone), D-norpseudoephedrine, Atropine sulfate, XXXXXXX Diazepam 8mg.

The ingredients in Redotex include depressants (like Sedative Diazepam) and stimulants (Like L-triiodothyronine and D-norpseudoephedrine). The ingredients listed for Redotex are linked to increased metabolism. The FDA has banned the sale of Redotex in the United States. Its regular use lead to addiction on it.

Nytol Contain:
-Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, a sedative antihistamine.

You are having addiction on sedative and stimulant medicines. Although rehabilitation under deaddiction specialist or psychiatrist is best for you. As you have lack of time following information will be helpful.

Following steps will be helpful for you in management:
-Motivational interviewing: by the psychiatrist.
-Consult general physician to rule out medical problem due to prolong use of addictive medicines. Monitoring of BP/Pulse/respiration and investigations like serum electrolytes, liver/kidney function test and other test may be needed in your case, according to examination.
-Maintain adequate nutrition, hydration and drink plenty of water.
-Stop Redotex use first gradually. For that you can reduce 10% amount of medicine every 5th day. Gradual tapering will cause you minimum discomfort, but you need to wear these withdrawal. If you are using capsule, then open capsule and reduce 10% powder every 5th day.
-Do not start other addictive pill to prevent withdrawal.
-Nytol is non addictive, it can be stop later, but take it in minimum prescribed doses.
-Always remember being substance free, need high level of motivation. So maintain your motivation. I have simplified steps to help in quitting for you. It is better if you quit under some de addiction specialist (psychiatrist), as it is a specialized area and keep follow up to remain motivated. Avoid place, person and situations which create craving for substance use, as much as possible.

I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow ups.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

Thanks for your recommendations and your quick response.
I have more questions. I take 2 or sometimes 3 pills of redotex every 2 days but sometimes I can't stand the abstinence and take a pìll the day I wasn't suppose to.
Do you think is better to take 2 pills every day? or Should I stick with the" every 2 day" format even though I fail some days to stay sober?
Of course always following your instruction to reduce the 10% very 5th day.

Another concern that I have is that I used to take high doses of sedatives, sometimes 1 dormicum and 1 valium the same night to go down and be able to sleep.
You told me to take nytol in minimum prescribed doses. The real thing is that now I take 3 or 4 pills of Nytol or Unisom to be able to sleep a few hours if I'm lucky. What do you suggest?

Well, thanks Again Doc!!!

Hello again,
Thanks for follow up.

It is better to XXXXXXX nearby psychiatrist, so that he can guide you better regarding tapering of medicines after assessment, physical examination and lab investigations. You may also need help of some other prescription medicines in this process.

Before starting tapering just fix the current use, and then XXXXXXX on calender about 10% tapering on every 5th day in advance and follow it strictly.

First taper redotex/ Then: dormicum/ Then: valium and finally Nytol. It is long and difficult process. So, you need help of nearby psychiatrist in such process.
