Question: hi, my son (3.5 years) had been complaining of stomach pain though not consistently. Recently he had vomiting with loose stools. I consulted the doctor and they gave him zanocin 100 along with bifilac and junior lanso for 5 days. Since he kept complaining of stomach pain frequently, we took a scan and he was diagnosed with mesentric adenitis with the largest node measuring 9*7 mm. The antibiotic course has now been extended to 7 days after consulting the doctor with the scan report. It is 3 days since he took the course and he still complaits of stomach pain and pain in the anus. His stools are still loose though vomittig has stopped. He has also reduced appetite and lost weight drastically. Will the pain completely subside after the 7 day course? is there any other treatment for mesentric adenitis? Please advice.

Brief Answer:
The antibiotics should be enough

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic and understand your concerns. Mesenteric adenitis is the other name of swollen lymph nodes within the abdomen. It occurs when there is some localized infection. In other words, it indicates that some sort of intestinal infection is present. The infection is likely to subside on completing the full course of antibiotics. So should the vomiting and other complaints. The pain should subside too. However, we will have to wait and watch. There is nothing further to be done at the moment.
I would insist you to give your child plenty of curd or yogurt since it contains beneficial bacteria that can help replace the bad bacteria present in the intestines.
Let me know if I could help further.

Thanks, my son's condition seems better now as he has regained his appetite and other complaints such as vomitting and loose stools have stopped. However, he frequently does complain of stomach pain though the pain does not seem severe. He has already completed his 7 day course as of friday. Is there further treatment/tests that needs to be down to understand why his stomach aches? Usually he passes stools after complaining of stomach ache. Is this normal? Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to normal bowel movements

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

The food matter moves forward through the gastrointestinal tract by virtue of sequential contractions of the muscles linking the wall of the tract. Sometimes these contractions can be powerful enough and thereby the cause of pain in the abdomen. Such contractions might be essential for passing stool and so I would consider this pain to be normal.
