Brief Answer:
spasmodic coughing .

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I know how troublesome it would be cough and cough, on and off all the day and even in the night.

Actually when the water goes inside the larynx and windpipe, there is a violent cough which is a very normal physiological protective mechanism to throw away the foreign material out. During this act all the muscles of the glottis and related structure go into a severe spam so as not to allow the foreign material and cough away whatever is there, causing an internal edema, injury and trauma. Now it is this that causes the further attacks of cough. This is called spasmodic coughing.

Please consult a Doctor to get examined and get a prescription of an antibiotic to avoid secondary infection a strong anti-inflammatory and steroidal medicines. This will help you to get an early cure.

Be concerned a bit.
