Suggest Treatment For Red Face And Forearms

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Apr 2014
Question: Can spending 2-1/2 hours on a boat on the ocean that has caused a very red face and forearms (forgot sunscreen) cause a very fair skinned male of 71 years to have chills, headache and a temperature of 100 degrees yet no pain to the skin? This event was yesterday in Southern California from 1 to 3:30 PM in full sun. What should I do? Thank you.

Brief Answer: After-sun balm; symptomatic treatment Detailed Answer: Hi there. Yes this can all happen as stated. The treatment would be by simple replacement of fluids & electrolytes orally in sips..Paracetamol/ Acetaminophen 500mg S.O.S. for symptomatic management of headache & fever may be taken 3 times on day 1 & S.O.S. therafter Use a Bioderma/Uriage 'After-sun' repair balm product on your affected lesions. Alternatively, Bioderma also has a product called Sensibio d.s. that reduces the redness. Good Luck & on your next venture out to sea, ensure a good Bioderma sunscreen product with SPF50/100 applied liberally from XXXXXXX till dusk & repeated applications each 3-4 hrs & 20 mts before any light exposure. Trust this advice is prompt & useful. Best regds. Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
