Suggest Treatment For Purple Bruising And Swelling Around Pubic Area After Falling

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: 10 days ago, I had a pretty violent fall on top of a computer chair. I fell hard on the right side of my pubic area, and it was swollen within minutes. Then next day, the area was purple. I had various bruises on my legs that came and are almost gone now. I still have purple bruising in my pubic area, but it is slowly going away. But, the spot I hit and it swelled so horribly, is still bulging, and it's a hard mass now,and still very tender. Should I be concerned? Could it need to be drained to go away? It's like I have a testicle now. I hope you have an answer for me.

Brief Answer:
It is most likely a Hematoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It could be a Venous injury which has led to a Hematoma or a blood clot.
In all likelihood it will settle down but some hematomas take longer to dissolve and disappear depending on their size and location. But sometimes they can get infected and lead to redness and pain. Therefore, I suggest you see your GP or a Surgeon who can examine you and advice accordingly. If there is a doubt a quick Ultrasound can tell whether there is any fluid collection and that might require drainage. If after examining you the Doctor feels there are signs of infection then you will require a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications for 5 to 7 days. You can also apply warm compresses on the lump to get it to dissolve faster.
Do not worry it is not a big problem and will get sorted out in some time.
Take care and do let me know if you need any further advice.
