Suggest Treatment For Pain Of Rib Injury

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Jun 2014
Question: I have broken ribs #7 and #8. Because of the pressure of my job, I have had to continue to go to work and because it is too painful to drive and because of the Percocet I have to walk to work. The pain killers do help me to at least bare the pain, but when they ware off I cannot stand the pain. I did this Wednesday of last week and the pain is still unbelievable. This happened due to a fall, so there is a lot of internal bruising etc. So my question is ... should the pain be getting worse or should it still be as bad as it was or should it be at least starting to subside by now. I did this wednesday of last week. I wish I could just be given the time to stay home and rest.

Brief Answer:
Take complete rest.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for writing to us,

I have studied your case with diligence.
Pain of rib injury should subside with rest now.
If pain is increasing internal injury is suspected.
Rib contusion is not always visible on X ray .You may need to do MRI or HRCT to see details of injury and to see for any lung puncture.
If there is lung injury then there will be increasing pain with every breath.
I will advise to consult to orthopaedic surgeon if pain is increasing.

Take complete rest and if required you may support chest with rib belt
Medication like muscle relaxant and analgesic will reduce pain along with it use rib support belt.
You may consult physiotherapist for pain management. He may start TENS, or ultrasound which is helpful in your case.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. If you find this answer helpful do not forget to give rating at end of discussion.
