Suggest Treatment For Pain In Big Toe

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Mar 2016
Question: I am a 64 year old female. Recently I was diagnosed with moderate degenerative changes in my spine. I have been suffering with hip pain (both hips). More importantly I was also diagnosed with severe ostiarthritis in my left BIG toe. I thought it was gout. Sometimes the pain in my left toe wakes me up during the night. What would you recommend to ease the pain? Pills? Shots? Ointments? Shoe inserts? Thank you!

Would surgery help? About 3 or 4 years ago, I did have a bunion surgically removed from my left BIG toe. I also had a bunion surgically removed from my right BIG toe about 5 or 6 years ago. Once the bunions were removed, I did not encounter any other foot problems.

Brief Answer:
Muscle relaxants will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The hip pain due to degenerative changes in the spine can be helped with a combination of pain killer and a muscle relaxant.
For severe pain in the big toe, local steroid injections and a hot compress in the area will help. Shoe inserts are not very helpful in these cases. You can apply a local analgesic gel like Volini in the painful areas.
I hope this answers your query.
