Suggest Treatment For Medial Collateral Ligament Tear

Question: Hi,

Due to an accident partial tear of th MCL is observed in the tibial aspect at my Right knee. Kindly tell me any possibility of recovery in the MCL with out going for surgery.

I have done lot of study on MCL tear and Usually when there is incomplete tear than it heals well without surgery. So I believe that you will not need any surgery.
But before I advice you anything, I want to know little detail about the illness.
1. How did this injury occurred?
2. Please send me your MRI report also.
3. When you were doing rest, were you wearing knee brace or plaster?

Hello XXXXXXX Ji,

I felldown along with my bike on a road on 7th August'2014 as my bike got Skid to left side and i along with my bike fell down to right side and my bike rested on my right knee. Due to this a mild damage observed in Ligament.

In my first visit, Doctor has suggested me to wear a Knee Brace for 30 days and told me to take rest.

In my Second Visit after observing MRI scan report he has suggested me to do physio exercises for 2 weeks and suggetsed me to walk with the help of a stick and told me to wear adjustable KNEE ROM brace . If still the problem persists we will go for a surgery.

I have a query regarding my Ligament is there any chance of healing of Ligament with exercises .

I have studied your case and I believe that your MCL heal well with this treatment. I think you should continue physiotherapy and I would recommend you to visit a sports medicine doctor rather than a general orthopaedician.
You are having tear in the meniscus, which is cushion like structure in the knee and for this you might need a key hole surgery. Right not there is now need to hurry.
If there is pain and swelling after three months then you can plan for this surgery.

Sports injury specialist are not physiotherapist. They are also called as arthroscopic surgeon. You can meet one in nizam institute.
Or you can search arthroscopic surgeon on net and meet them. I do not know any one personally.

I think it can be up to six weeks. Though it depends up on method of the surgery and extent of tear. At present I do not think that you need any surgery right now. Wait till you show it to arthroscopic surgeon.
