Suggest Treatment For Foul Smell From Mouth

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Oct 2014
Question: I visited a dentist because my mouth smells during the later part of the day.
He say my teeth and suggested that since the gums have receeded quite a bit, a filling would be necessary.
I am not implying that he mentioned that as a solution to my problem. It was just an observation.
Is there anything else that can be done for the receeding gums? what is the solution? If filling is the only solution, what type of filling should i go for. Any suggestions ?

Brief Answer:
gum infection, gum surgery, abrasion, GIC

Detailed Answer:

Thanks for your query.

I have gone through your query.

The bad breath or halitosis can be because of the gum infection secondary to the deposits. The other possible causes can be because of the food lodgement secondary to decayed teeth. It can also occur secondary to gastrointestinal disorder and respiratory tract infections.

Since you are telling that there is some gum infection, If I am your treating doctor, I would suggest you to get your teeth cleaned.

Regarding the receded gums, it can be treated with gum surgery (scaling root planing with guided tissue regeneration), if the teeth are associated with cervical abrasion then the teeth has to be filled with glass ionomer cement(GIC).

I have given my best possible reasons and treatment options based on your description. If you can upload the images of the teeth and gums, I can give a exact diagnosis and treatment plan.

I hope my answer will help you, take care.
