Posted on Wed, 4 Jun 2014
Question: A few weeks ago I noticed a small flesh colored bump that gradually got bigger and red it doesn't hurt. I am worried. I had protected sex several months ago and nothing since. I used to get waxing on my genital area but recently switched back to shaving. I get a lot of in grown hairs from this so idk what's going on.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of Folliuculitis to be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

From the short description given by you it appears to be folliuculitis (infection of hair follicles).
I would require additional information about it

1. What is the exact location where you are getting the bumps?
2. Does it rupture and leads on to discharge of our pus like material?
3. Is there itching?

Apart from this information it would also be helpful if you could provide clinical photograph.

Awaiting your response

Take care

No it doesn't itch I punctured it with a needle it bled and I try to squeeze it and it doesn't pop like a normal in grown hair how ever a small amount of pus comes out a very minute amount. it's located on my mons pubis it's not near my vaginal opening this website will not let me post a picture or at least I don't know how ... It doesn't give me any pain until I start messing with it

Brief Answer:
More likely to be Folliuculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Ms

From the description given so far it's likely to be Folliuculitis which is infection of hair follicles causing a pin head swelling which gives out pus when squeezed or punctured.

Brief Answer:
It is folliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dear Ms

Thanks for providing clinical photograph. It is definitely folliculitis.

I would suggest the following remedy

1. Hot Seitz bath: To a tub of lukewarm water add handful of common table salt. Sit in it for 15 - 20 minutes followed by bath. It will reduce the inflammation

2. Local application of Mupirocin Ointment : After cleaning and drying the area, apply the ointment 3- 4 times a day
3. Wear cotton Panty: Synthetic material may aggravate the lesion.
4. Tablet Augmentin( C0-amoxiclav ) 1 gm twice a day for 5 days: it will help erradication of staphylococcal aureus bacteria and prevent recurrence.

Next time you shave or use chemical depiliation apply Mupirocin ointment following it for 3-4 days.

Take Care

Best Regards
Deepak
