Suggest Treatment For Floaters In Vision

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: When I look at a plain white sheet, I see a lot tiny loose brown threads as I move my eyes across the sheet. My Ophthalmologist tells me these are "floaters" . He tells me there is no cure and they are getting worse. Is there medication that can cure this or any natural remedies or specific foods that can improve this?

Brief Answer:
Use of antioxidants and multivitamins will prevent worsening.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having floaters as diagnosed by your ophthalmologist.

Floaters are because of age related changes occurring in the vitreous which lies behind the lens and infront of the retina. The vitreous is normally a unifrom gel like structure and because of age related changes it undergoes degeneration which results in symptoms of floaters.

This is not a dangerous condition and hence no treatment is required.
And to be XXXXXXX as told by your doctor there are no effective treatments available also.

But if the problem is severe and affecting your vision then you can go for laser treatment.
Medications will not help to cure the condition, but they can prevent further progression. The use of antioxidant drugs and vitamin supplements will be helpful.

But if you note that your floaters are suddenly increasing or there are associated flashes of light then you need to consult your eye doctor again to rule out retinal problems like retinal tear, otherwise no need to be worried.

Hope this information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
