Question: Hi, my 23 days old new born starts getting wild while taking milk after 8.30 pm. He feeds very well other times. The milk he sucks, he is unable to gulp down during the time mentioned above. I try and burp him after every feed, keep him elevated while he sleeps. Kindly suggest remedy.

Brief Answer:
Evening colic

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

No medications are needed for this and it best to avoid any unnecessary medication at this age group. You are already doing the best - burping and keeping elevated.

IF THE BABY IS GAINING WEIGHT APPROPRIATELY AND PASSING URINE ADEQUATELY AND HIS ACTIVITY IS OTHERWISE GOOD, YOU NEED NOT WORRY PLEASE.

This is called evening colic and is quite common in this age group. This happens when the baby sucks at the breast very fast and in eagerness to drink milk will gulp in air too. Unless the air comes out like burping or flatus this discomfort will be there.
Next time check if he is sucking too fast and gulping in air too. You will be more convinced. Usually I don't advice any medicines for this as they give only temporary relief. There are medicines like Colicaid which give temporary relief but scientifically speaking not much.
Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. Wish your kid good health.
