Suggest Treatment For Depression
Question: A close friend has had several symptoms for years and her doctor can't figure out what the cause is. She is now 71 years old and is in good physical health (other than these problems). She has a history of depression and was prescribed Pristique 10 months ago and had a major reaction to that which seems to have increased the intensity of her problems.
Some of her symptoms include: dizziness, 3 places in head that hurt, vibration in her body (started in her core, but now includes her arms and legs), has been alternating been uncontrollable sobbing and raging for much of the day, has had spells where she gets very week immediately and is very weak and unable to get up for a couple of days (these are rare but have occurred more frequently during the past couple of years...maybe 3 or 4/year. Do you have any ideas about that the problem(s) could be?
She's had many tests and her doctors are at a loss.

I guess she had multiple problem in past and present.
As her age is now grooving to older her body functions become less active and body can not bear any physical or psychological trauma as before.
I want to know her basic test reports like MRI? because many symptoms suggest neurological involvement.
Thyroid function and blood glucose value?
she has mix anxiety and depressive symptoms too and may be due to ill physical health or psychological stress.
Prestique 10 mg only can not help her as it is very mild dose and lamitol also has no result in older as particular if we consider depression.
Weed also give temporary relief but in long term it is addictive and cause psychological problems. So please avoid it.
Many a times due to depression there are so many chemical imbalance which lead to medically symptoms and somatic complains.
For which adequate treatment is must.
How is her memory and attention?
Depression and anxiety can be treated with SSRI and sertraline is choice among all in medically ill and older patients.
Usually we start at 25 mg for 2 week and increase to 50 mg after two week according to symptoms improvement.
Add mild anxiolytic to counter her anxiety. Discuss all about this with her treating doctor.
For weakness and vibration, Proper neurological evaluation is must.
avoid weed.
