Brief Answer:
Skin tone imrpovement

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that you want to become fair and improve your skin tone.

Let me tell you a few basics about skin colour.

Your skin colour and tone is determined at the time of your birth itself and it is decided by the concentration of melanocytes( colour producing cells) and blood circulation. Therefore any treatment or procedures can never make you fairer than what you were at the time of birth.

But most of the people will acquire more pigmentation as age increases, we call it facultative pigmentation. Lot of factors determine it, most important being sunlight, others include dust, pollution, smoking, less hydration, intrinsic ageing and free radical damage, stress etc.

Treatments should be to bring your pigmented skin back to your normal skin tone and make the skin tone even all over the face.

Unfortunately in XXXXXXX there is a lot of hype and also marketing about becoming fair. I do understand that you are faced by pressure from society to become fair, but at times it is good for us to accept the colour given by God and work at keeping the skin and body healthy instead of trying to achieve the impossible.

However, I would suggest you a few measures which will help you to improve your overall skin tine and remove the pigmentation acquires by external damage.

1. I would recommend you to use a face wash twice a day ideally a one containing glycolic acid as it helps in exfoliation and to even out the skin tone.(eg : Melawash face wash)

2. The most important product will be a sunscreen. Half an hour before going out apply a sunscreen ( eg: Neutrogena Ultrasheer Dry touch sunblock) and reapply it every three to four hours. You may apply a compact powder over the sunscreen so that there is a XXXXXXX finish.

3. At night you may apply a lightening cream containing kojic acid ( eg: Kojivit gel) over the face before going to sleep.

4. You may consult a dermatologist practicing cosmetology for few sittings of chemical peels for faster improvement.

5. You could also consider taking oral glutathione tablets. This is an anti-oxidant tablet and comes in a combination with vitamin C and alpha- lipoic acid. This is giving very good results in improving skin tone in cases of pigmentation and tanning. You need to get this prescribed by your dermatologist and it is not available over the counter.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Johny Chacko

Hello Doctor,
Thank you so much for ur ans and for the quick response. I will use the products which you have recommended and will let you know. I have two questions. Can i get the products which you have suggested as example? You mean to say that glutathione tablets will not be available untill and unless if doctor prescribes?.... One more thing i wanted to tell you is my colour was normal only from my birth.. I was happy with what i have, but as you have mentioned i underwent chemical peel treatment from cosmetologist lyk around 4 sittings.. It showed the side effects resulting in uneven skin tone... too darker around eyes and around my mouth.. rest of the face like cheeks forehead is as usual but it is very difficult to go out with a face where it is darker only around eyes and around entire mouth :( :(

Brief Answer:
Dark circles and perioral pigmentation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome back.

I am glad that you understood my point.

If the pigmentation only around your eyes and mouth is the concern, then apply the kojic acid cream only around these areas.

You might have not used sunscreen strictly after chemical peels. This usually causes uneven pigmentation. Use a sunscreen very strictly irrespective of whether it is cloudy/ winter months. This is the mainstay of treatment.

Yes, you can get the products mentioned as examples.

Yes, you have to get glutathione prescribed by a dermatologist.

Also have a good diet rich in fruits and vegetables. These have anti-oxidants and will help your skin health.

Try to get quality sleep for atleast 6 hours.

Drink lots of water.

Hope this answers your queries.

Take care.
