Posted on Fri, 22 Jan 2016
Question: For 3 months now i have been having sinus issues as well as mucus in my throat ans ocassionally swollen glands. The mucus seems and feels to only be on the left side of my throat. Due to all this i have been getting fequent sore throats. I took a ct scan and it didnt show anything crazy it did show some sinus issue. Dr gave me a nose spray which has not done anything for me. What can this be ans how do i get rid of this and can it be something serious?

Brief Answer:
Some possible options and advises

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM,

I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

Constant sore throats happen when the infection have not been treated well, and have become chronic in the tonsils, and when in the tonsils have been formed stones because of the food accumulated in the folds of the swollen glands.

If I was your caring doctor, here is what I would advice:
-- Do regular gargles with salt, disinfectant spry for the throat, in this way the food wont get anymore accumulated in the tonsil's folds.
-- If you have an acute throat infection, consider doing a throat culture so you can understand which antibiotic is more sensitive, and take the treatment in full. In general it is recommended Amoxicilling 500mg, 3 times/day for 10 days. But strep may be resistant from it sometimes, so that why you will need the culture.
-- I would also say to continue using the nasal spry if it is a steroid spray. Sometimes the secretions from the nose drip in the throat from behind, causing constant sore throat (Post-nasal drip). A spry for the nose, may not seem beneficial short term, but you will see its result of you use if for some time.

Hope this is helpful.

Brief Answer:
Still the same treatment and same possible cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again XXXXXXX

Thank you for your follow-up question.
The fact that you have removed the tonisls, is an important information. That make you less prone of having strep throat, but since by removing the first barrier of imunity, you have become more prone of faringhitis, and also into getting viral infection.

I would recommend to continue with the advises of post-nasal drip...drink plenty of water, use nasal lavage and a steroid nasal spray.

It isn't serious in terms of course severity, but it can be bothersome if it lasts. For thos reason make sure to use treatment regularely until the sinus infection settles down.

Hope this is helpful.
