Suggest Treatment For Calcification In The Chest

Question: A heavy smoker has been having breathing problems for months. Goes to er unable to breath, or speak well. Chest xray shows what doctor thinks is calcium polyps. Follow up with doctor. What could this mean?

Hello

In chest x-ray,it is called as calcification.
Calcification is generally sequel of infection.It is a healed stage and it is not active at all.Infection naturally heals by calcification and fibrosis.
However other causes may be occupation related etc.

This specific finding generally doesn't require any treatment unless it compromises pulmonary functions.
Generally it is not a serious finding.

You may need follow up chest X-ray to show increase in size etc.
