Suggest Treatment For Bug Bites On The Left Hip

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Question: Hi, I have a cluster of bug bites on my left hip. I'm worried they may be bed bug bites & have already took precautions (started cleaning house), but would like some kind of official confirmation. Many thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
could be bed bug bites

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for the question.
It is not possible to say for sure but these could definitely be bed bug bites. Some other insect bites could cause a similar reaction, but when they are clustered like that bed bugs or spiders are the most likely.
In either case it is good to wash all bed clothing, sheets and blankets in hot water. Check the creases of the mattresses and see if you see any bed bugs. They often hide in the seams or crevices of the mattresses.

Make sure that anyone who has slept in the bed gets all of their sleep clothing washed in hot water and dried in a dryer on a high setting.

Thank you. I've started doing most of that (washing sheets, clothes, alerting those who may be exposed, bought 'bedbug proof' covers for mattress/pillows/etc). What else could it be? (What kind of spider?) Could it be an allergic reaction to new clothes, detergent, or general dermatitis? I would like to cover all my bases.. Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
not likely allergy

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the follow up.
Many common household spiders can get in the bed and give you a cluster of hive like bites. They are harmless but can be very itchy. The dangerous kinds of spiders like brown recluse and black widow ususlly cause a much more severe reaction with redness, skin breakdown and pain.
I doubt it is allergy unless it is much more widespread.
It really looks like some sort of insect bite.
I feel sure that if you are using the bedbug precautions you will get rid of whatever it is that bit you.
