Question: I have bed bug bites, three small punctures in a triangle, with one small black puncture and two small red ones. I woke up last Wednesday and saw them. How long do they last?

Brief Answer:
Wound finishes normally within a week, scar generally lasts about 2weeks,

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

I have seen the image you sent. The evolution of these type of lesions rarely last for more than a week. However, it is important to clean them properly to avoid infection.

From my experience, everything is fine in about a week's time. However, depending on individual skin characteristics, bite marks might last longer in some persons compared to others. they disappear from the second week in most persons and could last for up to six weeks in some rare circumstances. Do you easily keep scars when you get a wound on the skin? If not, all should be well in about two weeks.

Thanks and kind regards as I wish you the best of health. Please, do feel free asking further questions in case of need.

I discovered these punctures last Wednesday, the 2nd of September. From what I read, bed bug bites are in threes and sometimes in a triangle pattern as mine are. How long until the normal skin will develop and the bite marks will disappear? Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Clear skin in ten to fifteen days usually

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query
you should expect normal skin in ten to fifteen days. this corresponds to about a maximum of three weeks after getting these bites. they rarely exceed three weeks. in some rare persons who usually have skin allergies they can stay longer. if you have no history of allergies, your skin should be clear within a maximum period of ten to fifteen days from now.
kind regards as I wish you good health.

In looking at the image I sent, do these marks look like human bites marks? I was bit on the leg by someone but the skin wasn't broken. The next morning I saw these three small punctures in a triangle; I was staying at a hotel and saw small black excretions on the white bed sheet and also a small trickle of blood on the side of the bed sheet, which seems like bed bugs. Do you think these bites look like human bites or are they bug bites? Thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Not suggestive of human bites. Look more like insect bites

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,

The images are not suggestive of human bites. They are more suggestive of insect bites. Human bites are more painful that insect bites, and would deserve more aggressive treatment. However, I do not think the bites from the images are from insects.

Thanks and kind regards,

Dear Dr. Bain:

Do you mean in your last line that you do not think the bites from the images are from human bites? You wrote "insects" and you may have meant human bites. Please clarify for me. Thank you very much.

Hi and thanks for the query,

I am sorry if I was not very clear during the last discussion. You are right for I meant they do not appear to me as human bites.
