Question: Good morning.

I'm a 21 year old white male. My only allergy is penicillin. I am 185 lbs 6 feet tall I eat healthy and I'm in good shape. I have acne and its leaving some scars. I've tried proactive and a few things from medical ( I'm in the Navy) but at the most these products help only a little. Is there any medications or other solutions to my problem?

Thank you for your time.
Very Respectfully

Brief Answer:
Photo of acne (pimples/scars) is needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully. I understand that acne is very difficult to be treated.

1. The very first thing is to determine the diagnosis of acne. May I know if you have visited any dermatologist for this purpose? I need to have a picture of your face where acne (pimples) and scars are located for a specific judgement and advise.

2. I usually advise my patients with acne problems as you when they first come into my clinic to run a culture of pimple swabs to rule out infections. Please bare in mind that strep/staph infections are often associated/aggravating acne.

3. You are saying to have used a few things, I need to know what you've tried to give a more precise answer.

4. Finally, what I recommend to my patients after evaluating the culture results together with clinical symptoms is as following:
- keep a good face hygiene
- can use zinc sulfate soap for deep cleaning
- use warm water first when soaping, then, final rinse is with cold water
- dry the face with a soft tissue (never rub it roughly)
- apply salicylic acid cream twice daily
- non oily sunscreen cream should be also on daily basis

There are other specific treatment depending on the severity of acne and type. That's why I need to have a photo of your face where the acne problems are located.
