Suggest Remedy For Severe Abdominal Pain After Suffering From Viral Acute Pancreatitis

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: Hi,
I had suffered from Viral Acute Pancreatitis a couple of years back, and was admitted in hospital during that time. Since then, I have been having severe stomach problems (aches) on and off.

Recently, my weight has been increasing alarmingly. My parents suspect it might be some case of thyroid or some after affects of pancreatitis. During pancreatitis my weight was around 78Kgs. In the last 6 months, my weight has increased by over 10 Kgs. I am currently 90 Kgs. My height is 172cms.

I am under no medication currently and do moderate exercises daily. I do not eat too oily food and neither am I sleep deprived.

Please advice me on how I should proceed, and if I should get any blood tests or any other tests done.

Brief Answer:
Let us get the proper clinical evaluation and investigations.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Noted all your past history and the complaints of increase in weight and stomach pains off and on since an attack of acute pancreatitis in 2011.

I would advise you the following:
Enteroclysis of the intestines under fluoroscopy control so that intestinal problems like obstruction or so can be diagnosed or ruled out.

MRCP for the liver, gall bladder and pancreas to know about the present status.

Tests of blood: Routine and specials like amylase and lipase when in pain, sugar, kidney, liver functions, thyroid functions, lipid profile and whichever are necessary after clinical evaluation.
These may give the clue about cause of increase in weight gain.

Many a times weight gain can be due to improvement in the disease one is suffering from.

These investigations would give us a probable diagnosis to go ahead with the plan of management.

I hope this answer helps you in initiation in the process of getting the clear clinical picture.
