Question: My 14 year old had his tonsils removed a week ago. He also contracted a virus in the upper airway a day or two after surgery. He is still in alot of pain and complains of earache aswell. He is on pain meds and antibiotics. Should I be concerned that he is still in so much pain?

Brief Answer:
Post tonsillectomy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
Pain after tonsillectomy is common but it usually disappears in 3 to 4 days and child can eat normally in a week. If the child is still having too much pain and still fever is there..it should be discussed with the treating Consultant.
Few investigations must be done to see if there is some other infection.
Please tell me the current status of throat I.e. how much inflammation is there. If possible please send me the pictures of the child's throat so that I can suggest you better.
Also tell what medicines are being given.
Follow up with the required information.
Thanks and regards
