Question: Hi Doc, I am a New college graduate, this is my first company. Daily I will be working minimum if 9 hours. I am facing back ache, I need your recommendation for that. thanks, Kartik

Hello,

Back ache is a common problem with prolonged sitting especially with certain seats.

Kindly send details of your problem exact location, duration, what makes it worse/better, etc.

Meanwhile, try making your seat comfortable by using extra cushions, stand and walk around every half hour, take pain killers like ibuprofen 200 mg up to 2 times a day when needed, avid weight lifting.

If the problem does not resolve in 3 weeks, you will need tests like X-ray and/or MRI. You will also need consultation with an orthopedic surgeon.

Pain is on the upper portion of the back, after sitting 2 hours the pain starts and stays whole day.

It could just be wrong posture or it could be deficiency of calcium and vitamin D.

Kindly get the levels of calcium and vitamin D checked and take supplements accordingly.

You can also take physiotherapy to strengthen the back muscles. This can be especially helpful i wrong posture. Physiotherapist will want to rule out disc problems, so an evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon will also be required. You can take the report of calcium and vitamin D to him.
