Suggest Dosage For Arthrotec

Question: Does taking four tablets of arthrotec ( 800mcg of misoprosol) start the abortion process for a 7 week old pregnancy. I had severe cramping but no bleeding yet. I have not taken anymore medications. Should i assume the abortion is incomplete. Do i need a sonogram to confirm if the fetus is still viable or alive? I dont want to take anymore arthrotec because i dont have anymore medications. I only used four tablets once.What should i do next. If i let the pregancy continue, will the child have deformities?

Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Please answer few questions so that I can explain the process to you in detail:
1. Did you take misoprostol?
2. Did you get an ultrasound done prior to taking misoprostol?
3. When did you take misoprostol?
The process of abortion starts within24-36 hours after taking misoprostol.
If the bleeding doesn't starts till then, you should then get an ultrasound done.
Intake of misoprostol tablets induces congenital anomalies in the fetus like cranial nerve anomalies, limb anomalies.

Hello. Thanks for your answers. I took the medication (800mcg) over 40hours ago. I had ultrsound before that and it indicated i was 8 weeks and it was in the uterus.no bleeding yet but the cramps were severe 2 hours after taking it. Can i assume there is fetal demise which should be expelled with the next menstrual cycle? Is that dosage high enough to cause termination without expulsion of contents. Does the congental anomalies obvious if the pregnancy stayed.

Hi dear,
Ideally for a 8 week pregnancy, you should have taken mifepristone tablet prior to misoprostol, as it facilitates abortion.
However, the abortion needs to completed once the medication are taken. In such circumstance, I would repeat the dose of misoprostol if there is no bleeding after24 hours of intake of previous dose.
If the abortion process still doesn't starts, then you should consult an OBGYN specialist, get an ultrasound done and get a surgical abortion done.

The anomalies in the fetus due to misoprostol are obvious.

Thanks for your answers. The reason why i asked all this questions is because i dont have anymore medications. So is there a possibility that the pregnancy is terminated due to the high dose of misoprostol without actual expulsion of contents?

Hi dear, yes it is possible that the Pregnancy would have been terminated without expulsion. However it is wise to confirm this with an ultrasound scan. You should get an ultrasound done to confirm the absence of fetal cardiac activity.
