Suggest Alternate Over The Counter Medication For Ventolin

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Jan 2016
Question: I have moderate asthma and allergies to dust and pollen. At different times of the year I go on a preventer, however, at the moment I am relying only on Ventolin when required.

Today I cleaned out my closet and this evening I have had reasonably bad asthma (possibly from the dust?). I have used my Ventolin many, many times tonight and it is not as effective as it normally is which is starting to alarm me. I can't really lie down to go to sleep as it comes back very quickly.

Is there anything I should be doing tonight to stop my asthma getting worse? I will go to my GP in the morning.

Brief Answer:
You can also take ipratropium bromide inhaler also.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
You are having acute worsening of asthma due to dust exposure.
Ventorlin is having levosalbutamol. It is short acting beta 2 agonist. It is considered as reliever drug.
If you are not controlled with Ventorlin then you can take ipratropium bromide, oral antihistamine like levocetrizine or fexofenadine.
These drugs will also help in controlling acute exacerbation.
If still you are not improving then better to consult doctor and start oral or injectable steroids.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
