Diet tips given

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at healthcaremagic.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.

Diet in post heart patients focuses in keeping a good weight and avoiding salt. There are some recommendations that I will list here:
- take plenty of fruit and vegetables, this is good in your case as you are a vegetarian
- take whole grain cereals
- take plenty of water and keep yourself well hydrated
- avoid much salt- this would not be good for the blood pressure
- avoid grapefruit and its juice, this might interact with some medications used in post heart transplant patients
- take low fat milk and low fat diet avoiding especially the animal fat (this is easy in your case as you are a vegetarian)
- fish and poultry are recommended (these are lean meat)- not doable in your case but at least having a lot of fruit and vegetables will compensate a lot

Also make sure you have a healthy lifestyle. The diet is an important issue but also avoiding alcohol, not smoking and having regular exercise to keep yourself fit are good things to do.

I hope this answers to your question and is helpful to you but please feel free to write back if any more clarifications is needed on this.

Kind regards,

Antoneta Zotaj, MD
