Question: Sorry to ask again but I trust u.

When I had my tests they said earlier I had mild gastritis and of course I have had Spastic colon as it was called 30 years ago when it was diagnosed. I’m having a HIDA scan in a week as you suggested. I get nervous as I’m no better or worse! Right now pain only get to a 3 but duration is 5 months. I’ve been taking Prilosec 20 mg 2 x daily. We backed off of 40 mg 2x per day. I do occasionally feel mild center chest heartburn. While the discomfort is mainly RUQ just below rib line I do get some lowere right and center low pain to. Can mild gastritis last 5 months? Or more likely IBS? I note some alternating soft stool and hard stools. Thanks again your a blessing

Brief Answer:
Stress and anxiety - mild gastritis can not stay so long

Detailed Answer:
Nice to hear from you again and sincere thanks for your appreciation.
Let us discuss points one by one:
Mild gastritis: Can not last for so long.
Mild means anything just above or below the normal appearance/values. This was necessarily the Endoscopic view on day of Upper GI Endoscopy. And even a few doses of Ranitidine or any PPI like Omeprazole can give great relief and change in endoscopic view. If at all gastritis persists the commonest cause is stress and/or anxiety which has direct bearing on stomach and intestines, particularly the large one. Since you are taking Prilosec in the said doses, gastritis and occasional burning in pain are due to the instigating factors which can come on any time and cause symptoms.
IBS: again the main cause is the stress and/or anxiety.
Spastic colon is usually a presentation of IBS and is due to reflex phenomenon unless proved otherwise by colonoscopy.
Stress and anxiety is again one of the commonest reasons for costochondritis which presents as pain and tenderness at the lowest ribs and muscles attached to it.
Occasional central heartburn can occur due to GERD that is gastroesophageal reflux disease; as the name suggests the stomach contents which can be food, bile or so, it is not necessarily acid every time and anyway you are taking Prilosec.
Pain in right lower is indicative of colitis/IBS wherein there is spasm of ascending part of colon. The lower abdominal pain in center can be due to sigmoid part of colon going into spasm.
If the colonoscopy is normal then nothing to worry about alternating soft and hard stools. Stool tests for few consecutive days helps further.

Overall, stress and/or anxiety play main role in many such problems. Stress and anxiety can come on any time and can be due to trivial factors most of the times which one recognizes soon, but again these things are not in our hands. If one can recognize the causative factors and avoid these at any cost it helps for self control of many a problems. I hope you would surely agree with me if you think over my thoughts. The reasons vary from age to age and many other factors. Please try to identify, avoid and see if these help.

I hope this long answer gives insight you might have been finding.
Please feel free to share and opine too.

With Regards.
