Question: Out of all the medications to control reflux, what ones would you recommend for long term use. I am also very worried about drying effects, are there certain drugs that are less likely to dry your mouth when waking? I was taking zantac, and I ultimately get burning mouth from the drying effects. Please advice

Brief Answer:
Proper therapy required sir.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The best medication which have the guts to control your symptoms properly is Rabeprazole. Its a PPI which inhibits the excessive as well as baseline production of acid in stomach.
However as per your history you are having acid reflux. So as the name suggests there are two parts of your problem.
Part 1 Prevent excessive acid production that Rabeprazole is going to control.
Part 2 Prevent reflux of formed acid back into esophagus. This part is not covered in your treatment and therefore a sensation of burning is still there. So if possible a good combination would be Rabeprazole 20 mg once daily with Domperidome 30 mg for first 21 days after that switch over to Rabeprazole 20 mg for next 3 months and thereafter shift yourself on weak acid inhibitors like Ranitidine.
Burning is not due to dryness rather its a clincal sign of reflux.
This is the ideal and safe protocol sir
Thank you.
