My Two Adult Sons, Aged 23 And 25, Have Their

Question: My two adult sons, aged 23 and 25, have their tonsils still, as my late husband would NOT let them have them removed when they were children. He had custody of them until they were 18, but they still have not agreed to have their (very enlarged) tonsils out. My one son has bad snoring/night breathing difficulties because of his tonsils. They both told me that it is dangerous to have tonsils out at their age. Is that true?

Detailed Answer:
Hii. Everyone has tonsils in the body. There is no problem in having enlarged tonsils. But if the tonsils are getting infected or if the patient is having frequent sore throat then it is better to remove the tonsils after the infection got settled. If the patient is getting snoring, mouth breathing, difficulty in swallowing, difficulty in speech, day time sleepiness, lack of concentration, poor performance in work, choking breath holding spells at night then better do a laryngoscopy to see the inside of the throat. If it is found in the laryngoscopy that the cause of these symptoms is tonsils then it is better to remove the tonsils. But at first he should loose some weight,do moderate exercise, yoga and to be in follow up every 6 months. If symptoms are decreasing in repeated follow up then he can avoid surgery.
