Question: My mom lost hearing in her one ear suddenly in July. Shes been to the doctor countless times and they keep saying that it has to clear up on its own if it even will. the problem is she is experiencing random nauseaus feelings and stomach pain along with a minor headache randomly every couple weeks that lasts for around 6 hours and then it goes away and she is left with the bad feeling of the ear loss symptoms. Im getting worried and nobody will think outside the box and help they just send her on her way. its been at least 5 doctors now. she has a high pain tolerance also and never gets ill like this. please help.

Brief Answer:
Meniere disease may be the cause, visit an ENT doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think she should visit an ENT doctor to see the ear with an otoscope and also do an audiometry.
Different pathologies can cause hearing loss and knowing exactly the pathology can determine if the hearing loss is permanent or not.
The nausea and stomach pain may be related to stomach issues rather than ear issues.
If she has also dizziness and vertigo the issue may be related to ear diseases such Meniere disease.
I think the issue with your mother may be Meniere disease since the hearing loss is also associated with vertigo.
Doctor's often use gentamicine injections in the middle ear since it is toxic for the ear in order that the other ear takes the equilibrium functions.

Hope I have answered the question.

Hello Dr.,
I appreciate your response so much. She has been to two ENTs that have basically said it’s sudden deafness syndrome and nothing they can do, but don’t really take in account her other symptoms. She has had a hearing test as well and that’s when they said sudden deafness and that was that. At a loss as to where to go to get some form of resolution for this as we have been to multiple doctors and spent thousands since July. I know I sound like I’m begging for an answer but it’s only because this isn’t like her and it feels like all the doctors we have gone to don’t care to spend the time. She is very irritable to because she doesn’t feel right and it’s even changed her moods.

Brief Answer:
Discuss about corticosteroid injections or heating aids.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I am sorry to hear about this situation. The causes of sudden deafness syndrome can't always be determined and that's why the doctors can't really explain it's causes and determine a treatment.
You can discuss some treatment options such corticosteroid injections, intratimpanic injections of corticosteroids, hearing aids or cochlear implant.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards.
