default
Posted on Thu, 29 Apr 2021
Question: My husband is experiencing, at times, sharp pain right below his below the belt buckle, in the center...not to the right or left. What could this be? No fever, chills, etc...He took a laxative to see if it was gas or something in intestines, an although "cleaned out," still experiences it...feels bloated, etc..

Brief Answer:
Clinical evaluation and examination, investigations to get a cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your husband and understood the concerns.
Bloating with central abdominal pain is usually due to conditions of small intestine like enteritis, lymph node enlargement.
Hence Laxatives usually do not help and may cause more problems.
Avoid laxatives unless proved otherwise.
I would advise him the following in such a situation:
Stool test.
X-ray of abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasonography of abdomen.
Tests of blood and urine.
Clinical evaluation by a Doctor, preferably a General surgeon.
All these will help to get an appropriate diagnosis so that a correct management can be done.

I hope this answer helps you both.
