Question: Last week I had a fever of 102 degrees(F), which for me is very high since I am normally around 96.7. Of course, my first thoughts went to Covid 19. No cough, no runny nose or any mucus for that matter, I did have shortness of breath, but I have had SOB on and off for two years. (In 2014 i was diagnosed with mild asthma, but I have never needed an inhaler. A CT scan in 2017 did show bronchiectasis, but three subsequent CTs showed normal lungs.) I went to my GP, and he took X-rays and blood. Based on what he saw, he thought that it was a pretty good chance it was bacterial so he prescribed an AB. This was Wednesday afternoon and he said I should feel an improvement by Friday morning. On Friday morning, the fever dropped almost to normal and I felt almost normal. I am even briefly went into the office (based on what the GP said). However my SOB was bad last night (again, I have had episodes like that in the last two years, but not recently). My temperature was in the upper 97s, just slightly higher than normal, but still no cough or sore throat. I know there is limited information available for Covid 19, but since the AB appeared to work (or did my body just get better on its own?), and no cough, no sore throat, but my temperature is about one degree above normal and with last night's bad SOB (my breathing appears to normal now), should I pursue this further . i.e, get tested? If I feel the same way tomorrow morning, is it ok to go to the office? I am 68 years old, and otherwise healthy.

Brief Answer:
I don't think this is your case

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome in Ask the Doctor

I can understand your concern

So as you explain the situation the doctor that has examined you has done a chest X ray for you and examine you closely. I fully agree.

Nevertheless the fact that the fever has dropped and you feel better regarding SOB means that the antibiotics have worked.
In the treatment of COVID 19 the antibioitcs don't work at all and the situation of the patients gets worse with the passing days. I don't think this is your case.

In my opinion you can get back at work however try to follow the rules the WHO has provided for all the population around the world.

Be safe
