Question: I’ve read that antibodies to hiv can bind with p24 antigen and cause an infected individual to test negative as both the ag and ab will be undetectable. I’ve had 4 XXXXXXX 4th gen tests notebook than 10 years after possible exposure. I’m concerned because I am having sx that my doctors cannot explain. My last cd4 was 580. Any insight?

Brief Answer:
The cd 4 level is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

The CD4 level is in the normal range.

There is no study that confirms that HIV antibodies can bind with P24 antigen and cause negative results.

So, in my opinion, there is nothing to be worried.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
The PCR test is very accurate when it is done days or weeks after exposure.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again dear,

I am sorry for my late response.

The PCR test is very accurate when it is done days or weeks after exposure to HIV.

In your case I don't think it can be accurate because of the long period of time after the possible exposure.

Hope my answer was helpful.

Take care,
