I’m A 33 Year Old Female, Mom Of Three. Non

Question: I’m a 33 year old female, mom of three. Non smoker, rarely drink (maybe one glass at a wedding), no family history of heart problems, I’ve never had high blood pressure. I also exercise regularly.

I do, however, have health anxiety. Since my last baby was born about 4 years ago. I was having pvcs, so I wore a zip patch last year. Which showed 2-3 wenckebacks. So my doctor ordered an echo. I had the echo done this last money, and received the results today, with no call from my doctor. I tried reaching out, but he never responded. And I am terrified.

My echo was all normal, except for a mildly enlarged left atrium. Everything I’m reading online is terrifying. I’m having a panic attack about it, and I just need some answers.

What could have caused it? Can it be reversed? What steps can I take to prevent it getting worse?? Please be sensitive, I’m very scared.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mrs Becker

Ma'am, first of all, I would like to reassure you and I want you to take control of your anxiety levels and calm down as all healthy individuals do have some amount of vpcs throughout the day. So there is nothing significant to worry about for vpcs until unless they contribute to more than 20% of total beats in a day.

In pregnancy as there is volume overload in the body in order to sustain the nourishing life in the uterus, there can be slight dilatation of left atrium.

However, before proceeding any further I would like to request you to kindly upload your echo report so that I can personally evaluate it and then guide you properly.

Kind regards

I haven’t been pregnant for the last 4 years.
How can I best take care (and hopefully reverse) this issue?

Detailed Answer:
Isolated mildly dialted LA do not have any recommendations for any treatment. The common cause of la dilatation includes:
1. Hypertension most common
2. Mitral valve disease like mitral stenosis or mitral regurgitation.
3. Fluid or volume overload conditions like CKD

As you don't have any underlying cause so it's advisable not to worry or get panicked as this require monitoring and you need to get an repeat echocardiogram done after 6 months to see whether the things are stable or any progression is there.

Kind regards
