Is Severe Knee Pain Indicative Of Meniscus?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Dec 2023
Question: My legs hurt bad while sitting and knees hurt bad while standing x2 years. Now both legs and knees hurt equally. Started with right knee two years ago.

1- Pain started 2 1/2 years ago. Started in my right knee. Pain was/is worse when I sit, the pressure from the back of my thigh radiates pain in thigh and knee.
2- Had MRI. They couldn't confirm torn meniscus, but THOUGHT that's what it was.
3-Had arthroscopic surgery about a year ago on right knee. No Help (the left knee was not hurting at that time)
4- About 8 months ago my left knee started hurting EXACTLY the same way as my right knee started.(NO Accident either time)
5- Now left and right knees hurt all the time. Worse when I first stand up. Hurt when sitting from pressure on back of thigh touching chair radiating into the knee.
6- I wrap my knees most days. Helps very little.

Thanks,
doctor

Brief Answer:

Lubricating agents can help.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

From your symptoms it seems that both of your knee joints have undergone osteoarthritic changes.

These are basically age related degenerative changes in the weight bearing joints like knee and is characterized by joint pain and stiffness.

Upon movement the stiffness gradually relives. Sometimes application of hot pads can make the movement possible.

The treatment options include pain killers, hot fomentation, lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin , dycerin, etc and some life style modifications and physiotherapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

What changes should I make? I have been taking Glucosimine/Condrointant for a couple months. Am 52 years old. 5' 11" and 235 lbs. I have tried exercising knees and legs. Lying on the floor doing leg lifts and knee bends. It seems to hurt too much to do these exercises. Thanks for your input.

Brief Answer:

Take proper doses of these.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You need to add Diacerin twice daily too along with at least of glucosamine and chondroitin twice a day for proper relief. Do add daily calcium supplements also and start a proper physiotherapy program under the guidance of a physiotherapist.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
