Question: Does it matter if a patient seeking kidney transplant smokes? Does it lessen the chances??

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you are curious to know about the smoking for a patient who is to undergo renal transplant.

As it is known fact that smoking is injurious to health and more injurious to the patient who has compromised renal function due to Chronic Renal Failure(CRF).

It has its own hazards as for as post operative pulmonary complications and recovery after going through a major surgery of renal transplant is concerned .

It is always advisable to refrain from smoking before planning for such a major surgery.
