Is It Likely That A Lump That I've Been Told

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2020
Question: Is it likely that a lump that I've been told is a lipoma, and which I've had for over 15 years (17 to be exact), could become cancerous? I saw another doctor - I've seen about 5 - and asked about this and they said to just ask for an ultrasound during my next physical. "This is not urgent. This appears to be a benign lipoma." They told me they didn't really suspect anything, but that it would give me peace of mind and nobody can really rule out anything without proper testing.

Brief Answer:
No risk of malignancy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Lipoma that has been there for 17 years is not possible that it can get malignant .
They told you to do an ultrasound to check the dimensions of it and keep it under observations if it keeps growing or not .
I don't think you should get worried about malignancy.
An ultrasound should be done to check its dimensions and this doesn't mean that doctors suspected malignancy.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
