Is Infection Through Toothbrush Possible When Undergoing Antibiotic Treatment For Oral Chlamydia?

default
Posted on Fri, 28 Nov 2014
Question: If you are infected with oral chlamydia and are undergoing antibiotic treatment, is it possible to reinfect yourself via your toothbrush?? Would you need to use a different toothbrush every time to not reinfect your throat or is that a ridiculous precaution? Also if both partners are infected with oral chlamydia can they still kiss or deep kiss while undergoing antibiotic treatment? Thanks!

Brief Answer:
preferably avoid intercourse/ kiss.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for query.I am Dr Bharatesh D Basti answering your query.
As you are on antibiotic treatment the load of organism goes on reducing.
Self infection can occur. Sharing of brushes can transmit infection. Changing of brushes in same person does not make the infection to become more severe.the organisms are already existing in you.so do not become anxious .
It is better to avoid intercourse /oral/ kiss till both the partners are successfully treated for full course of antibiotics prescribed.
There are possibilities of infection acting like ping pong infection. (I.e if one is cured and other not cured , it may be transmitted.)
